With bodyboarding growing on a continual basis, grassroots development is becoming more important than ever and to prep the country's finest bodyboarding grommets, British Team coach Rob Barber has created a new, specialised grommet clinic, run from his bodyboarding school on Fistral Beach, Newquay. Arranged to coincide with the half term holidays, and in anticipation of the British Bodyboard Championships, the two day event was very well supported with participants aged between 12 and 18 years from as far away as Scotland.

Those participating were coached to take their bodyboarding skills to the next level, as well as working on competition style and technique. The clinic also incorporated video coaching and friendly competition in order to develop the young bodyboarders talent. Australian shredder Aidan Salmon led the clinics with the support of Alex Allen, all of the grommets were extremely keen and committed.
Aidan said, "Until now, young bodyboarders have been expected to develop their own competition techniques and tactics as well as develop their own style and these new clinics offer them a new route to securing grassroots development from the best in the business. It was brilliant to see just how far they all came in just two days and with Joe Hone placing 3rd in the Junior division.
Joe Hone commented "The bodyboarding clinic was amazing. I can't believe I've learnt so much in only two days. The video analysis was particularly useful because it lets you see exactly what you're doing in the water and clarifies what you need to be trying to do. I have felt such an improvement in my skills in the water and feel so much more confident about competitions now."
The bodyboarders were rewarded at the end of the course with a stuffed goodie bag courtesy of ThreeSixty Magazine, Overhead Surf Shop and NMD Bodyboards. A big thanks to Overhead Surf Shop, NMD Bodyboards, www.kernowbodyboarding.co.uk, and Rob Barbers Bodyboard School for supporting the future of British bodyboarding.
