Bodyboarding Weekends
May 30 - May 31
July 11 - July 12
September 12 - September 13
September 26 - September 27
October 17 - October 18

Sponsored by NMD, ThreeSixty, Rip Curl

For 2009 we have re-built our coaching weekends to add even more value for money.  We offer an action and fun packed weekend that is guaranteed to push your bodyboarding skills forward, and ensure that your skills develop and you are getting the best out of every session.

Who are the bodyboarding weekends for

This course caters for all levels. From riders who haven't bodyboarded before, through to competent shredders and everyone in between.

Our coaching team split the group in to rider ability levels so that everyone is taught as an individual and gets the best possible tuition. Those that have specific needs can improve paddling, wave selection, turning, spinning, cutbacks, lip moves or rolling: we can look at any of the moves that you would like to improve.

The weekend is aimed at bodyboarders of all ages and abilities who are keen to take part in a fun weekend that will focus on improving their riding. It is also a great opportunity to meet like minded bodyboarders, to learn from each other, share travel tales and enjoy all that Newquay has to offer

Who will be coaching us

You'll be taught by top Bodyboard instructors from Rob Barber's Bodyboarding School and some team riders from the event's sponsors.

All of our coaches are qualified and insured and have years of bodyboard experience. Aside from the water-based tuition, our instructors can help you in other aspects of bodyboarding - from buying kit; to waxing your board; to choosing a travel destination abroad.

What coaching techniques will you use

Before getting on the water you can expect plenty of beach work to get your head around the moves and techniques that you'll be tackling when you’re on the water.

Once we're out, we’ll be with you all the time: riding on waves with you, talking you through and breaking down moves until you’ve cracked them.

We also use video analysis to identify problems and trouble shoot technique faults. We review the video slow motion to analyse body positioning, weight distribution and technique:  we find that this really helps in breaking things down and taking your riding up a level.

Do we have to use the schools equipment?

We find that people learn better using their own equipment - and are more likely to make lasting changes to their riding. If you are new to the sport, or can't get your own kit down here then you can, of course, use our own equipment at no extra charge.

What You Need

Everything that you'd normally bring away on a trip, or take for a day at the beach (including sunscreen!). We also recommend that you bring some warm, loose clothing that you can easily change into and out of, and a waterproof jacket is essential.

Social Stuff!!

After an invigorating day on the beach, we provide the option of a Barbecue on Tolcarne beach on the Saturday night – a great way to revitalise yourself and replace some calories (please indicate if you are interested when you book).  There's also the option of heading into Newquay for a few drinks after this…

There will be a 'Bodyboarding DVD' presentation, where we talk you through the techniques and approach of other riders, discuss how you can emulate them, and take a step-by-step look at moves that you are working on.

Food Outlets

Our base - the Carnmarth Hotel - offers lunch and dinner.  Newquay town is only a five minute walk away and also has plenty of options.

Fitness

Obviously having a good level of fitness is a real plus as bodyboarding is a very physical sport, but it isn't boot camp! If you're tired you can rest and re join the group when suits you. It's a matter of everybody improving at their own pace and the course is very flexible and has a laid back feel to it.

Photography

Professional photography will be taken of the event and will be available to purchase after the weekend. This will include both land and water images.

Accommodation

There are plenty of options - from surf lodges to five star hotels. We are positioned on the site of the Carnmarth Hotel - they can be contacted on 01637 872519 or check them out at www.carnmarth.co.uk.  Alternatively try Berties Lodge: 01637 870333; www.bertieslodge.co.uk.  Or feel free to contact us and we can suggest some more suitable options.

Newquay tourist information can also be contacted on 01637 854040.

These are been supplied by ThreeSixty Magazine, NMD and Rip Curl wetsuits, and will contain a selection of Bodyboarding vouchers and goodies - all to the value of over £20!

All participants receive one, plus there will be a limited amount of other prizes: including a top of the range board for the most improved rider…
