FAQ's

We hope that the following information will help clear up any questions that you may have about the ESF surf coaching. If not, please get in touch…

Will I be put under pressure?

A surfing lesson can be as formal or informal as you want (within our safety remit). You can have the full "learn to surf" lesson with all the instructor demonstrations, beach teaching and set practice drills (without a doubt the quickest way to learn to surf). Or if you want a less structured lesson then you can be on the water after a quick safety talk by the instructors.

What's a typical lesson like?

For the complete novice, the "ABC" lesson covers: safety, warm up, equipment features, hazards, getting out through the waves and catching them 'toboggan style', paddling and then standing.
A series of lessons can be booked for a reduced rate in order to increase the chances of success and ensure progression.
For more advanced riders the lesson will be tailored to their specific requirements. This may include specific moves, contest conditioning, style tips etc.

Who Can Learn to Surf?

In short: anyone! Different people learn to surf for different reasons. A typical lesson might include: young children whose parents want them to learn in a safe and closely supervised way; super-keen teenagers who want to become surfers as quickly as possible; university students who want an action packed activity weekend; professionals who have always fancied the sport or are on a team building weekend or people who have been bought a surfing lesson for their 40th, 50th or 90th birthdays - so... anyone can learn to surf!

Are you Accredited?

The school is accredited by the British Surfing Association. All instructors are qualified beach lifeguards, BSA level 1 or above instructors and National Coaching Federation members. The school and all of its coaches are fully insured.

Are there any requirements for undertaking a lesson or course?

You must be able to swim 50M in a pool, and if you have medical conditions then these must be declared on the consent form.

How much do they cost?

Single lessons generally cost £30. They last for approximately 2 hours, included in the price is instruction, insurance and equipment.

PLEASE NOTE: Seasonal discounts and offers are available, email or call the school for more details.
