From: North Wales
Having just returned from a third weekend of Adventure Training in Newquay, I can confirm that this event, as short, easy to organise and cheap for the participants, really is an inclusion into the Phase 2 training programme that is a must for the personal development of our young soldiers. Even the journey time from Worthy Down to Newquay has it’s worth; the journey too sees the students hyping up the weekends activities where they know they’ll push them selves to limits that they never thought possible (free jumping 42ft into the sea), and the return journey becomes a time for reflection with a sense of achievement in their buzzing characters.
A few of the students that attend the weekend have never entered the sea, many are weak swimmers and the majority have the human fear of heights. But under the professional guidance of the excellent instructional team, all students overcome their fears and are astounded by their personal achievements.
A truly excellent weekend in a perfect environment with quality instruction.

“Surfing was a fantastic experience as it is something I have never done before. I was lucky enough to pick up the technique quickly and had an awesome time!
The coasteering was really fun, and scary! I think this was down to the conditions we experienced that day. It was really hard because of the amount of swimming and climbing we did, but the jumps were awesome and made it well worth it, a real buzz!”
30111230 Pte Baylis – Aged 17 from Stadley
“I really enjoyed the activities as I haven’t done this sort of thing before. The coaststeering was challenging, but a really good experience. I really hope I can go back to Newquay and do these activities again, they were so cool!”
30111228 Pte Peet – Aged 17 from Salisbury
“Having come back from AT yesterday, one word sums up the time I had – Awesome! I really, really enjoyed the surfing and managed to stand up on the board!! Coastteering was excellent, but a little scary, even Capt Burns got a little scared when he got swept along with the current!”
30110942 Pte Jamieson – Aged 17 from Cambridgeshire
“The body boarding was fun, but it was even harder than surfing! The instructor was really helpful and experienced, so I learnt a lot. It was a lot better than other sports I have tried.
Coasteering was good and because not everyone in the group was a good swimmer, we all showed good team work to help each other out and finish the activity”
30113951 Pte Marsden – Aged 24 from Leicester
"I really enjoyed the whole weekend as I have never been to Newquay before, and have never surfed or done coast steering. I would love to surf again and do the coasteering. It was a good team building exercise that showed what could be done when we put our minds to it.”
W1057968 Lt Willis RLC – Aged 25 from Somerset
“This was my first time away from the training environment with the soldiers under my command. The facilities provided were excellent and ideal for a taster of the activities in a fun and safe environment. The opportunity given to phase 2 soldiers to enjoy a break from training and experience something, most would have never done before, was great to see. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Even non swimmers! Particularly as it got a bit hairy in places!!!
24839440 WO2 Beal – Aged 39 from Aldershot
“The weekend was a superbly run, challenging event away from the students’ normal place of work. The instructors were first rate and got many of the students to attempt, and succeed, in activities they would not have dreamed they would ever be taking part in.
The camaraderie displayed was heartening to see, and got people to jump when lesser mortals would not. It was clear to see that the students thoroughly enjoyed their time on AT, and learnt a great deal about themselves, which can only be a good thing for them”.

Surfing and Coasteering with the 32 Royal Artillery Regt
Last week we hosted the guys and girls from 32 Royal Artillery who were down in Newquay for some Adventurous Training. Here is what they had to say about their experiences with us inbetween their multiple nights out in Newquay.
We had a great week down in Newquay with the ESF. The surfing tuition was first class and the coasteering was an extremely memorable experience. Many thanks to Aidan and the rest of the guys.

Have just spent 3 days adventure training being taught to surf, bodyboard and coasteering with a group from the armed forces. I have been on various other packages run by companies such as this and nothing compares. The instructors are outstanding, knowledgeable and gained the trust very quickly of all 35 people who at...tended who varied in age and experiance. I have already looked into rebooking a few weekends with other soldiers and have ensured that our package next week will be with them again. Thanks for an incredible week of coaching and a fantastic time.

Bodyboard Coaching week, May 2009.
Rob, Brendan and Aidan,
We've arrived back safe and sound,
We would like to thank you all for an excellent week of coaching, between the 4 - 8 May 09.
All the lads who attended your coaching course have thoroughly enjoyed their time
with you and the guys. The instruction was excellent and service and support
throughout the week was to highest standards.
We are now back to work and the work place is buzzing with stories of our exploits
both in and out of the water! All those who participated are now confident enough to
venture up to Portrush and tackle some big ones soon. We're all missing the TOLCARNE WEDGE very much!!!
We hope to make plans for another training week after the summer and now hope
to book a winter session soon after- Morocco is still our favourite choice.
Once again Rob a big thank you to you and the guys and see you very soon.
Regards John and the Crew
665 SQN AAC.
