The ESF Surf School and Rob Barber’s Bodyboarding School have been established since 1998 and are now recognised as the flagship coaching facilities for surfing and bodyboarding in England. The school has achieved BSA level three status.

Owner, manager and head coach Rob Barber has 20 years surfing experience and has coached all abilities from total novice to international competitor, having been selected as a British team coach on 5 separate occasions. The ESF prides it’s school as leading through example as far as safety and coaching are concerned.

We are totally flexible to the customers needs and are constantly refining our courses and events to offer the premium service in the industry. We aim to teach you to surf the right way from the start, in a fun, relaxed atmosphere and have gained a strong reputation for this.

  • The English Surfing Federation is a non profit making organisation. A percentage of the profits from the surf school are ploughed back in to English surfing to promote and support surfers from a grass roots level to the countries top competitors.
  • We’re open all year round.
  • Discounted equipment hire is available if you would like to try out your new skills after your lesson.
  • Stag/Hen/birthday groups receive a bottle of bubbly on completion of the lesson! Amazing photo opportunity!

  • Lessons can be as formal or as relaxed as you want (within our safety rules).

  • Our surf school is 100 metres from the sand.
  • As the Flag ship school of English surfing we pride ourselves on strictly adhering to the national standard safety rules. Particularly with reference to Student to pupil ratios.
